Hello. My name is Larry and I am a Triathlete.
I know, it may not look like it, but I am. I became a triathlete on May 11, 2013 when I ran Penny's Pieathlon
in Waukee, Iowa. I swam 400 yards, biked about 12 miles and ran 3.1 miles. It was tough, but at the end I had accomplished
something none of my close family and friends had ever done. Or even thought about doing.
And then I really didn't do much afterward. I ran some 5k fun runs, and 2014's Grand Blue Mile, but other than that,
nothing for 2014. I had really planned on doing what would amount to a Sprint Tri a month leading up to HyVee, but
in the end just did a couple more 5ks.
I could blame this on the bike shop taking forever to get my bike tuned up.
I could blame it
on dealing with various personal issues.
I could blame it on moving into and setting up a new house.
But in the end,
it's me and the choices I've made.
Not this year.
I want to stay on track with the goal of doing an major Triathlon in 2017, my 50th birthday.
To that end, I have the goal of running the Liberty Triathlon in Minnesota in June and possibly the HyVee Tri in Aug/Sept.
I've committed to the Icebreaker Indoor Tri at the end of January and going back to Penny's Pieathlon in May.
I joined a group on facebook, #writeandrun31, that has me committed to running and writing every day for 10 minutes;
in addition to my regular training.
It's a new day, a new year, and the opportunity to build on the new life I started when I passed through the
finish chute that chilly morning in May.
Join me, won't you?
